Kotabaru, S Kalimantan (ANTARA) - Regent of Kotabaru H Muhammad Rusli has signed addendum to memorandum of agreement on strategic projects in South Kalimantan, specifically in Kotabaru.

The Public Works Ministry's Director General of Highways, Roy Rizali Anwar, said that the adendum covers three projects: the construction of bridge connecting the mainland of Kalimantan Island and Pulau Laut (Laut Island); alignment improvement on Banjarbaru-Mentewe corridor; and the construction of the central corridor road on Pulau Laut.

“The completion of the approach road is handed over to the Tanah Bumbu District Government for the Batulicin side, and to Kotabaru District Government for the Kotabaru side. This is to accelerate the construction,” he said in Banjarmasin, as reported on Tuesday.

The bridge is scheduled for completion in 2028, including a road widening plan that connects the access road to the national road and the construction of access or approaching road to both the Kalimantan island side and Pulau Laut side. 

He explained that the central corridor road of Pulau Laut spans a total of 75 km, with a total budget of about Rp2 trillion. 

A 6.4 km in the scope of APBN is now being constructed, and the remaining 35.6 km needs a budget of Rp1.02 trillion.

Meanwhile, a 12 km part is currently being built in the APBD scope, with 21 km work needs a budget of Rp760 billion. 

He emphasizef tha the agreed addendum should soon become an operational work plan.

“The success of this collaboration is not measured by the number of documents signed, but by the infrastructure that actually built, safe, functional and provides benefits to the community,” he said.

Kotabaru Regent H Muhammad Rusli noted that the construction of the bridge connecting the mainland and Pulau Laut is a strategic project expected to facilitate land transportation and ferry crossing in South Kalimantan, particularly within the Kotabaru.“This is an improvement in streamlining land and crossing connection. Our community has long awaited this bridge, it existance will certainly make it easier to meet public needs, including the distribution of essential goods,” he said.
