Kotabaru, S Kalimantan (ANTARA) - The Kotabaru Library and Archive Agency in South Kalimantan partnered with PT Arutmin North Pulau Laut Coal Terminal (NPLCT) held a "Story Telling" to promote reading culture for early childhood. 

Sofyan Hamid, the Dispersip's Head of Library Service, said Story Telling is a flagship literacy program designed for kindergarten children in all sub-districts. The initiative also supports the regional head's vision “Kotabaru Hebat, Kotabaru Cerdas” (Great Kotabaru, Smart Kotabaru).

“Especially this is the Regent's flagship program, ‘Kotabaru Hebat, Kotabaru Cerdas’ and we will always support it,” he said here on Thursday.

“This is one of the leading activities in library services, aims at building and developing reading culture through gradual literacy covering all sub-districts. If you are close to the District Library, we can directly pick up,” he said.

He expressed appreciation for PT Arutmin NPLCT Kotabaru's continued support of the Dispersip programs. Similar activities are also regularly held at “Kampung Nelayan” (fishing village).

External Affair Officer PT Arutmin NPLCT Kotabaru Albaari Rahman Hakim stated that the company strongly support activities that promote literacy and reading interest, particularly for early childhood education (PAUD) to elementary school (SD).

“PT Arutmin facilitates the place and 4 kindergartens to participate with parents and teachers for Story Telling activities. At the same time they receive outreach from Dispersip,” he explained.

In this Story Telling event, the first winner of the children's story telling competition at the Kotabaru regency level was Siti Nurhayatul Hasanah from Islamic junior high school MTsN 1. 

She presented her story using educational props to attract children's attention and motivated them to be interested in reading.

The event also presented Culture of Reading and Literacy within the Community delivered by Satiawati, S.I.Pust., S.Pd.
